Aubrey Wade is a British photographer based in Berlin with a special focus on portraiture.
He is commissioned by individuals and organisations worldwide and his photographs appear in leading publications, including CNN, TIME, BBC, the British Journal of Photography, the Guardian, the New York Times, Newsweek, the Fader, the Financial Times, Zeit online, and many others.
He works internationally and is known for his sensitive approach to long-term documentary projects exploring issues around identity, (un)belief, migration and relationships, often working collaboratively to incorporate words, pictures and audio in a research-based practice.
He believes in the importance of connecting people's stories with audiences beyond the media, where amplification of political differences can separate people from one another. To do this he has co-produced bespoke exhibitions for major public venues in Berlin, Rome, Vienna, Paris and London, as well as materials that support learning in classrooms.
His No Stranger Place project, which portrays refugees and locals living together in Austria, Germany, France, Sweden and the UK, has been exhibited in Berlin Central Station, St Martin in the Fields on London’s Trafalgar Square, and Ground Control in Paris, amongst others.
Aubrey developed No Stranger Place in partnership with UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, who used the project to launch their ‘compassion series’. Over the course of 12 months the series was seen in 80 countries, in at least eight languages.
He is represented by Panos Pictures, one of the world’s leading photo agencies, and holds degrees in Social Anthropology from Sussex University and in Photography from the University of the Arts London.
Aubrey lives with his wife and their two children in Berlin, Germany.
